Since 2005 I have been a regular Skype user. Right after I started using Skype I ran into a group of heavy users and pretty much took a dive into it. With all the traveling in my life since then, I've really grown into using Skype for all my long distance communications.
I guess that is one of the reasons why running into a tech-savvy group of people that pretty much ignores such an incredible tool impressed me so much that it dragged me out of my "New IT Trends" posting diet. :-)
Skype is one of the premier tools for any road warrior. I have skype-in phone numbers in Rio and San Francisco, both me and my wife regularly use skype-out to call regular phones in Brazil, Australia and the US and I do most of my text chats in Skype too. Sure, I use Windows Live Messenger as well, both in Windows and on the Mac, but just for chat. I almost never use it for video or voice conversations as the quality of both audio and video is much worse than what you get with Skype.
I will be writing about some other tools and services which make a huge difference in what and how easily you can accomplish day to day tasks in the next couple of days.
