For a long time it has been rumored that Google would release its own web browser, but I doubt that many expected to get the news that is going into beta tomorrow. Google's close relationship with Mozilla had many people considering that the search giant was happy to have Firefox as the independent browser of choice for running sophisticated web applications everywhere.
It seems that that is not the case as Google announced that it will release a browser called Chrome, tomorrow and that it will be based on WebKit, the same rendering engine used by Apple's Safari. There has been mention that the browser also includes come Mozilla technology, thus tapping on the two major open source browser development projects. Chrome will be open source, itself, as it is derived from open source initiatives.
Though Google is borrowing technology from WebKit and Mozilla, the portions of the description I managed to read in a comic book (weirdest form of distributing information about a software I have ever seen) that was published today, suggest that Google is going well beyond just releasing a basic browser. The information in the comic book suggests that we can expect some advanced features in process and memory management, which could help you have a better browsing experience.
Now we need to wait and see.
